Front-back (360 degree) same-day spinal surgery for advanced conditions

I was at an excellent conference in Melbourne last week and, among other controversial topics, there was a lot of debate around why spinal fusions “don’t work”. Actually, they do work. With careful patient selection and the ‘right procedure’ tailored to the ‘right pathology’ (using minimally invasive techniques wherever possible and only doing what’s absolutely necessary), fusions are quite consistently successful based on our patients’ own reported outcomes. Here’s just one example. This older physician had debilitating spinal symptoms that were a combination of worn lower spinal discs (causing discogenic lower back pain), a large disc fragment herniation (causing lumbar radiculopathy/sciatica), spinal stenosis (causing neuroclaudication) and degenerative spondylolisthesis (causing facetogenic lower back pain). What is shown in this 2-minute video are the 10 key steps we undertook to help this patient regain his quality of life for the precious years ahead. The two-stage “front-back” procedure was carried out under the same anaesthetic. None of this is achievable without great team work and at the end of the video are the due acknowledgements. We believe this is world-class spinal surgery, and we’re always aiming to set benchmarks in quality and safety. CNS+NSV.
