The art of microvascular decompression (MVD) for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm

Microvascular decompression (MVD) for either trigeminal neuralgia or for hemifacial spasm is, I believe, an incredible operation. It’s designed to help patients who have had no luck in having their symptoms resolved in time, medically.

It is always a privilege to be able to see the brainstem this way, and to microsurgically “adjust it” safely and anatomically in order to facilitate symptom relief.

Above: Look at the proximity between the 7th + 8th cranial nerve complex and the 5th cranial nerve – This view is simply amazing for me to see each time
Above: Discovering the site of the neurovascular conflict that underlies trigeminal neuralgia (or hemifacial spasm) is a joy because it means I’ve now ID’d what I’m here to help
The first step in a series of 4 different technical things I do to commence the microsurgical structural and physiological improvement of this local anatomical environment, for the BETTER.
